Mirror mirror

Have you ever wished that you didnt find chocolate cake quite so delicious? Or perhaps youd love to be able to resist the giant pack of chips you typically get through while watching your favourite film? Well, maybe this simple trick could help.

In a recent study, scientists found that people who ate unhealthy foods like chocolate cake in a room with a mirror in it evaluated it as less tasty than when they ate it in a room with no mirror. Interestingly, when they tried the same thing with fruit salad, there was no difference in perceived tastiness.

The scientists suggest that when we’re able to see ourselves eating unhealthy foods we judge ourselves as we believe others would - therefore making the less healthy foods seem less appealing. So if you’re someone who struggles with making healthy food choices, or eating too much of unhealthy foods, the simple strategy of sitting near or in front of a mirror may an easy solution.
