Eat out. Dine al fresco at every opportunity – barbecue and picnic in the garden, on the beach, in a field. Benefits include a healthy breath of fresh air, a dose of vital, sunshine vitamin D, a refreshing change to your usual mealtime routine and a better than usual chance of everyone lending a hand and joining in.
Top tip 2
Exercise outdoors. You don't need a lot of equipment or a gym membership. Go to the local park or football field and run laps, do drills, cycle or just walk. The options are endless and available for you to explore.
Top tip 3
Don’t shrivel up. When the temperature rises outdoors, hydrate accordingly. Sip water (throughout the day and keep a glass by your bedside, too; if you’re tired of pure water, throw in a slice of lemon, lime or orange. Ring the changes with herbal or fruit ‘teas’ (drink them hot or cold) and reach for more watery foods, such as cucumber, celery, leafy salads, extra-juicy fruits (water melon, strawberries), raw or steamed vegetables and soups.

And, talking of water… make a splash in or on it: swimming, rowing, canoeing, sailing – they’re all great fun ways to get open-air active.
