Peel away your ailments

There are a myriad of food products in supermarkets claiming to be healthy such as prebiotic yoghurts, cholesterol-lowering margarines and high-fibre breakfast biscuits. It would cost a lot of money to buy all of these processed foods regularly, but luckily there is a cheap, natural alternative that packs in more health benefits than any of these products combined. What is this healthy snack? Bananas.

Bananas contain something called Tryptophan which converts to Serotonin – the chemical in the brain that makes us happy. So eating a banana can lift your mood naturally but they also help regulate your blood sugar and provide a sustained energy boost for both your body and brain. It’s no wonder bananas are the preferred snack of athletes.

Bananas are also high in fibre and the prebiotic properties stimulate the growth of friendly bacteria in the gut, soothing upset stomachs.  The high Potassium and Magnesium helps to lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol and fend off kidney cancer, strokes and heart problems.

The health benefits of bananas are clear but they can also be used for relieving PMS symptoms, the effects of heartburn and even removal of warts or bug bites by placing the peel over the concerned area.

So next time you’re in need of a snack, pick up a banana. They’re cheap, tasty and full of nutritional benefits to keep you healthy, happy and full of energy!
