Green spaces increase happiness

Surrounding yourself with green space decreases stress and anxiety and increases feelings of happiness – these are the findings of a new study from the University of Wisconsin. These results support the theory that being outside and at one with nature, can increase feelings of wellbeing and allow us to rejuvenate and restore health.

So if you’re feeling a bit blue, or perhaps your stress levels are spiralling out of control, make a pact with yourself to seek out a green space each day – whether it’s a park, a field or simply a small city garden. Take note of the sounds, the sights and the peace – this will help to take your mind off your every day duties and responsibilities. Enjoy just being present in that moment in time.
