Try these top tips:
1. Take time over meals.
Ever wondered why you seem to eat a lot more on holiday, yet never gain as much weight as you expect? Part of it is probably down to the time you take on holiday to enjoy your meals. When you eat food mindfully, you’ll digest it more efficiently, appreciate it more, and you’ll be less likely to snack on foods between meals.
Sitting at a table with friends and family and appreciating every meal is one of the best bits about being on holiday. When you’re back home, make the time to sit down for breakfast, have lunch away from your desk and switch off the TV at dinner time to enjoy some quality conversation or quiet time.
2. Make the most of the outdoors
Wherever you live, there is an environment to make the most of; whether it’s a park, river, sea, or even an impressive piece of urban architecture. Taking time out every day to get some fresh air will boost your mood, add activity to your day, and also improve your levels of the sunshine vitamin (vitamin D). Aim to have at least thirty minutes of outdoor time each day, even in winter.
3. Break the pattern
One of the reasons holidays are so pleasant, is that it means a break from everyday routine. But this shouldn’t be kept for only once a year. Add some variety to your regular routine by having a different breakfast three times a week, taking a different route to work, choosing a new restaurant for dinner, or even changing your typical working wardrobe.
4. Have a digital detox!
It can be stressful and tiring constantly being ‘available’ on email or phone. Holidays are a great time to switch off from the continuous influx of emails, tweets and calls.
You can bring this element of relaxation back home with you by switching off your phone and email for at least an hour every evening, not checking work emails at weekends and enjoying reading a book or newspaper on your commute instead of catching up on work.
